In the West, most people’s exposure to a personal God is via Christianity. However much of what is taught within Christianity does not adequately explain the highest principle taught by Lord Jesus Christ. The discussion of this point will shed light on, and help us understand Bhakti, in the context of something familiar, and thereby shine light upon the doctrine of spiritual love taught and displayed by Christ.
Matthew 22.36“Teacher, which commandment is the greatest in the Law?” 37Jesus declared, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
What is this condition of love? Why is there so little known about it? How is it experienced? What are the symptoms of such a love? And how do I achieve this spiritual condition?
Bhakti is not a worldly religion or a “religious faith”. It is in fact the essence of true religion or Sanatan Dharma, the eternal nature of all souls.
